Until the mid-20thcentury, Banjos were mounted exclusively in gut, a material that hadbeen used for thousand of years, that combines excellent promptness ofattack with brilliance of timbre - very different from modern nylonstrings. Until recently, the typical sound quality of gut has been aconstant point of reference for lute-makers, composers and performersalike. A fundamental aim of Aquila's research has been to make a newsynthetic product having the same acoustic properties as gut, butwithout its typical defects - (high cost, limited duration and highinstability under varying climates).
The New Nylgut® hasprecisely these qualities; allowing one to rediscover the sonoritiesfamiliar to the late 19th and 20th century masters and guaranteeing astability of tuning higher than that of the best gut and nylon strings.
