Fine Antique French Violin Francois Breton Made in Mirecourt circa 1850.
• Varnish : golden colour
• Upper Bouts : 165mm
• Middle Bouts : 113mm
• Lower Bouts : 208mm
• Body Length : 358mm
• Top : made of two pieces of spruce and shows regular and thin grain lines.
• Back : made of a single piece of flamed maple, the curl very slightly descending from left to right.
• Ribs, neck and scroll are of the same wood.
• Inside Back has Breton label, "F.Breton brevete de SMG la duchesse d'Angouleme a Mirecourt', signed Breton".
• The signature is also fire branded on the button of the neck.
• Violin will ship in a new case for security in transit.
Please Note
The violin is in a strongly repaired condition, with many repairs on the top including a sound post patch, and a repair at the D peg. These repairs have been well conducted and have most likely been done by Jules Lavest in Montlucon, circa mid 20th century, (Note the bridge is branded Lavest). The back is crack free. The violin has been checked and revised, and has a new set of Thomastik Dominant strings, new chinrest, tailpiece and endpin.
