A Fine and interesting French Violin, probably made in Paris, circa 1800. The top is made of a single piece of spruce, and shows regular grain lines. The back is made from a single piece of beautiful flamed maple,  Curl very slightly descending from the left  to the right. The ribs are of the same wood. The work is spendid, with gorgeous f holes, the purfling masterly inlaide, elegant corners and eges. The varnish is of a brown colou on a clearer brown ground.

The violin is in a restored condition, with several repairs on the top, ( none to the sound post ), and the neck and head have been changed circa early 20th century. In the photo, it appears the button is broken, but it is not.

The violin has been entirely revised and set-up, including a rosewood and bone tailpiece, and matching chinrest, a despiau bridge and a new set of Thomastik Dominant strings.

The violin has an old Stradivarius label.

The violin has an extraordinary warm and mature sound, powerful with excellent projection. This violin would suit the complete repatoir. A fine concert violin.
