Gliga 1 Dark Antique 1/2 Size Violin Outfit

The Gliga 1 Dark Antique is a distinguished European instrument specifically tailored for the advancing student. Hand-crafted in the renowned Gliga workshops in Romania, these violins are built by the most experienced makers using superior grades of tonewood. Featuring a solid spruce top with fine straight grain and a solid flamed maple back, each instrument is hand-graduated to produce a rich, well-rounded voice that demands to be heard. The dark antique oil varnish is applied by hand to ensure the wood can resonate freely, allowing the tone to 'open up' and improve as the instrument ages.

Our luthiers expertly fit the maple bridge, install Pirastro Violino strings, and precisely adjust the Ebony Swiss-style pegs to ensure smooth, reliable tuning. This ensures your violin arrives in peak playing condition, ready for the classroom or the stage.

Are the cosmetic variations a defect?
No. Minor surface variations in the hand-applied varnish or the carving of the scroll are hallmarks of authentic handcraft. These individual characteristics reflect the traditional Romanian techniques used in the Gliga workshop and do not affect playability or tone.

Why is the "Dark Antique" finish special?
The antiquing process involves layering oil varnish to simulate the depth and wear of a vintage instrument. Because this is worked by hand, the color density and texture are unique to every single violin, giving each student a one-of-a-kind instrument.

Can I upgrade the strings?
While we fit high-quality Pirastro Violino strings as standard, advancing students may benefit from upgrades to Pirastro Obligato or Evah Pirazzi. Our workshop can assist with these customizations upon request.
