The Gotoh 510UB is a premium wraparound tailpiece that consolidates the standard two-piece bridge and stop tailpiece setup into a single precision-engineered unit. Built to the same exacting standards as the rest of the Gotoh 510 series, the 510UB features specially designed locking studs, spring clip retention and hardened zinc saddles — delivering improved tuning stability, cleaner string break angle and a simplified hardware layout on any carved or arched top guitar.

One Piece — Two Functions

A standard Les Paul style setup uses two separate components — a tune-o-matic bridge that sets string height and intonation, and a separate stop tailpiece behind it that anchors the strings. The strings pass over the bridge saddles and wrap back to the tailpiece. This two-piece system works well but introduces two contact points, two sets of mounting hardware and the possibility of the tailpiece moving or rattling independently of the bridge.

The wraparound design of the Gotoh 510UB combines both functions into a single unit. The strings load from the rear, wrap over the top of the bridge and break angle directly from the saddles to the nut — a simpler string path with fewer contact points. The result is a direct, resonant transfer of string vibration into the body and a clean, uncluttered hardware layout that many players prefer both visually and tonally.

Locking Stud System

One of the most common problems with wraparound tailpieces on production guitars is stud movement — the mounting studs work loose over time under string tension, causing the bridge to shift position and affecting intonation and string height consistency. The Gotoh 510UB addresses this with a specially designed stud system that locks securely into the guitar body, preventing movement under load.

Spring clips on the underside of the bridge lock it securely onto the mounting studs — preventing the bridge from lifting or shifting when strings are removed for changes. This keeps the bridge in the correct position throughout string changes and eliminates the need to re-set the bridge position every time strings are replaced.

Hardened Zinc Saddles

The saddles on the 510UB are individually adjustable for intonation — an important upgrade over basic wraparound designs that use a fixed bar with no saddle adjustment. Correct intonation across all six strings on a wraparound tailpiece requires individual saddle adjustment, and the 510UB provides this in a clean and accessible format. The hardened zinc saddles are durable and produce a consistent, balanced tone across the string range.

Compatibility — Arched and Carved Top Guitars

The Gotoh 510UB is best suited to carved or arched top guitars — the geometry of an arched top provides the correct string break angle for a wraparound tailpiece to function and intonate correctly. On a flat top guitar the string break angle may be insufficient for optimal performance.
