Gotoh SG381 MGT Locking Tuning Keys — 3 a Side, 07 Button, XL Posts, Chrome (SG381MGT-X-CHROME)
The Gotoh SG381 MGT (SG381MGT-X-CHROME) is a set of six locking tuning keys in a 3-a-side (3L, 3R) configuration with Gotoh 07 style buttons, XL long posts and chrome finish. Built in Japan to Gotoh's precision engineering standards, the SG381 MGT features a 16:1 gear ratio, traditional thumbwheel Magnum Lock mechanism, non-staggered uniform 21.5mm posts accommodating headstock thickness up to 17mm, and a 10mm shaft hole requirement. Includes screw-in bushings, washers and fixing screws. Chrome is the correct finish for instruments with chrome or nickel hardware throughout — the most widely specified hardware finish across 3-a-side guitar designs and the standard choice for players whose existing bridge, tailpiece and control hardware is silver in colour. The SG381 MGT is the 07 button variant in Gotoh's MGT locking range — the same thumbwheel locking mechanism and XL posts as the SG301 MGT, with a contemporary rounded 07 button and 16:1 ratio in place of the SG301's classic 01 button and 18:1 ratio. The SG301 MGT uses the Gotoh 01 button, a classic oval Rotomatic profile that closely matches the Grover 102 Rotomatic look on Gibson instruments. If you are replacing Grover 102 Rotomatics and want the headstock to look unchanged, the SG301 MGT's 01 button is the closer match. If you prefer a modern button or are fitting tuners to a non-traditional instrument, the SG381 MGT is the correct choice. On finish — chrome is correct for instruments with chrome or nickel silver hardware. Gold (SG381MGT-X-GOLD) is correct for instruments with gold hardware. The Gotoh 07 button is a contemporary rounded profile — a modern aesthetic suited to current production instruments and custom builds that do not reference a specific vintage button format. The MGT thumbwheel locking mechanism operates from the back of each tuner: wind the string normally, tune to pitch, tighten the thumbwheel to lock. Invisible from the front, no change to stringing technique. XL posts at 21.5mm uniform height accommodate headstocks up to 17mm — covering the full range of 3-a-side guitar headstock profiles from standard to heavily lacquered or bound.
