Katoh Flamenco Cutaway Acoustic / Electric Guitar
Acoustic electric cutaway version of the Katoh KF flamenco. This guitar’s combination of solid spruce top and agathis back and sides match up as a perfect combination for the aspiring flamenco player. Tone is great as it cuts through without compromising the bass register. The KF is designed and built to sound great whilst withstanding the rigours of robust flamenco playing. Cutaway gives excellent access to higher frets.

An excellent nylon string guitar for many differen
By: Jose Garcia on 15 April 2024I purchased the Katoh Flamenco Cutaway Acoustic/Electric Guitar from Angkor Music and was delighted with what I received. Given that there are very few reviews for the instrument and purchasing it sight unseen, I was a little concerned about what would arrive. Anyway, I did not have anything to worry about. The guitar arrived within a week, without any problems and I found the quality and playability to be excellent. Intonation and action is spot on. Unplugged the sound is fine (a standard classical guitar will sound fuller) but where it shines is when plugged in, the sound representation from bass to treble is fairly even, therefore requiring minimum EQ adjustments for performance. Some notching on the lower frequencies may help with clarity. There is a microphone as well as piezo pickup on the fishman pre-amp. However I will recommend something like a Boss AD-2 pedal to bring up the resonance of the guitar and have mic turned right down. If plugging in directly I recommend having the mic turned on slightly. Too much and you'll get an unwanted boominess in the bass register, something that can happen to any guitar with a microphone. The body size of the guitar is smaller than a standard classical guitar and it has a full scratch plate or "golepeador" protecting it, which I feel is more practical than a typical tear drop shape. The tap plate or golpeador is clear, does it job and does it without fanfare. For me the playability of the guitar is outstanding and it is suitable for a wide range of styles and not necessarily just for flamenco. It came with Savarez strings which seems like a good match and the guitar felt very responsive whether lightly picked or heavily strummed. The truss rod does need a special tool for adjustments but this is supplied. The model is extremely similar to one made by Cordoba (which I also have) but I think I prefer the Katoh, particularly when plugged in. Overall I am very happy with this guitar and the service from Angkor.
