What Is an ABR-1 Style Bridge?

The ABR-1 is the original tune-o-matic bridge design — the bridge format introduced on the Gibson Les Paul in 1954 and used on virtually all Gibson archtop and carved-top electric guitars since. The ABR-1 is distinguished from the later Nashville tune-o-matic by its smaller footprint, narrower string spacing and the use of a thin retainer wire that holds the individual saddles in position.
