TonePros NVR2 — Locking AVR2-Style Bridge, Nashville Retrofit, Black (NVR2-C)
The TonePros NVR2-C is a chrome locking Tune-O-Matic bridge that solves a specific and common player need: vintage ABR-1 feel and aesthetic on a modern Nashville-spec guitar. The NVR2 is engineered as a second-generation AVR2 style bridge — the vintage accuracy of Tune-O-Matic design — but with compatibility built in to retrofit directly into Nashville-spec guitars. It ships with Nashville-style US thread posts and inserts for immediate drop-in fitment, and is additionally designed to fit most AVR2 style posts and spacing. TonePros locking technology is retained throughout. For Gibson USA owners and other Nashville-spec guitar players who want the vintage tone and feel of ABR-1 style construction without a non-standard installation, the NVR2 is the bridge that makes this possible.
Angkor Music — The NVR2 Explained: Vintage Style, Nashville Compatibility, and How It Differs From the AVR2 and TP6
The NVR2 occupies a specific position in the TonePros range that is worth understanding precisely before ordering. TonePros makes several Tune-O-Matic style bridges, and the differences between them are functional, not cosmetic. The TP6 is a Nashville-style bridge — designed to the proportions, saddle width and aesthetic of the larger, more modern Tune-O-Matic format used on post-1970s American guitars. The AVR2 is a vintage ABR-1 style bridge — designed to the proportions of the original Tune-O-Matic that Gibson used from the 1950s through the early 1970s, including the narrower, more refined saddle profile and characteristic vintage tone. The AVR2 fits vintage ABR-1 spec posts with 6/32 thread. The challenge is that the vast majority of modern Nashville-spec guitars — Gibson USA from the mid-1970s onward, most Epiphones, most import LP-style guitars — have Nashville-spec bushings and posts with 10-32 thread and different post spacing. Fitting a true vintage AVR2 to one of these guitars requires either a conversion or a luthier modification. The NVR2 eliminates this problem. It is built to the AVR2 vintage style — the narrower saddle profile, the vintage tonal character — but ships with Nashville-spec US thread posts and inserts so it drops directly into a Nashville-spec guitar with no modification. The "N" in NVR2 stands for this Nashville compatibility. Additionally, the NVR2 is engineered to also fit most AVR2 style posts and spacing — giving players who already have or want to use vintage-spec hardware a second installation path. This dual compatibility is the NVR2's defining feature: one bridge that serves both guitar types. TonePros' locking system is retained — posts lock in position for complete vibration transfer. For players with a Nashville-spec guitar who want the vintage ABR-1 feel without modification, the NVR2 is the direct answer. NVR2 vs AVR2 vs TP6 — Choosing the Correct TonePros Bridge
| Model | Style | Post Thread | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| TP6 | Nashville modern | 10-32 imperial | Nashville-spec guitars |
| AVR2 | Vintage ABR-1 | 6/32 imperial | Vintage ABR-1 spec guitars |
| NVR2 | Vintage ABR-1 style | Nashville posts included — also fits AVR2 posts | Nashville-spec AND AVR2-spec guitars |
Why Vintage ABR-1 Style Matters — Tone and Feel
The original Tune-O-Matic bridge design used by Gibson from the 1950s through the early 1970s — the ABR-1 pattern — has a narrower, more refined saddle profile than the larger Nashville-style bridge that replaced it. Players and luthiers who have compared both consistently describe the vintage ABR-1 style as producing a different tonal character — typically described as warmer, more focused and more responsive, with a slightly different fundamental resonance from the narrower saddle contact points. Whether the difference is primarily in the bridge or in the interaction between the bridge and the guitar's overall resonant behaviour is a matter of ongoing discussion — but the preference for vintage ABR-1 style bridges among players who restore or upgrade Nashville-spec guitars is well established and the NVR2 is designed specifically to serve it.
Nashville Retrofit — Drop-In Installation
The NVR2 ships with Nashville-style US thread posts and inserts — the hardware required to fit the bridge directly into the existing Nashville-spec bushings of a Gibson USA or similarly spec'd guitar. For most Nashville-spec guitars this is a direct drop-in replacement: remove the existing bridge, thread the NVR2 posts into the existing bushings, and the NVR2 is in position. No routing, no drilling, no bushings to change.
The additional compatibility with most AVR2 style posts and spacing gives players who have already converted their hardware or who have vintage-spec guitars a second installation path without needing different hardware.
TonePros Locking System
The NVR2 retains TonePros' patented locking post technology — the posts are locked in position once the guitar is set up, eliminating micro-movement between the bridge and body that production hardware allows. The acoustic result is more complete vibration transfer from strings to bridge to body, producing more sustain and richer harmonic content. For the full explanation of how TonePros locking technology works and the audible difference it makes, see any of the TonePros product pages in the Angkor Music range.
Who Is the TonePros NVR2 For?
- Players with Nashville-spec guitars (Gibson USA, Epiphone, most import LP-style) who want the vintage ABR-1 style tone and aesthetic without converting their posts or modifying the guitar
- Players who have found the Nashville-style TP6 or LPM04 bridge does not give them the vintage tonal character they want, and who want to move to a vintage ABR-1 style bridge without losing Nashville compatibility
- Players who want TonePros locking quality in a vintage-style bridge format that retrofits their modern guitar
- Players with vintage ABR-1 spec guitars who want the NVR2's dual compatibility — the NVR2 also fits most AVR2 posts
- Players who want a true vintage ABR-1 spec bridge for an unmodified vintage guitar should consider the TonePros AVR2
- Players who want a Nashville-style bridge for a Nashville guitar should consider the TonePros TP6 or LPM04 set

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the NVR2 different from the TonePros TP6 and AVR2?
The TP6 is a Nashville-style bridge — modern proportions and saddle profile, designed for Nashville-spec posts (10-32 thread). The AVR2 is a vintage ABR-1 style bridge — narrower vintage proportions, designed for vintage 6/32 ABR-1 posts. The NVR2 takes the AVR2 vintage style and engineers it to also work with Nashville-spec posts — it ships with Nashville thread hardware for direct fitment to modern guitars, but is additionally compatible with most AVR2 posts. It is the bridge for players who want vintage ABR-1 style on a Nashville-spec guitar.
Will the NVR2 fit my Gibson USA?
Most Gibson USA guitars from the mid-1970s onward use Nashville-spec bushings and posts, and the NVR2 ships with Nashville-spec posts for direct drop-in fitment. However Gibson has used several specifications across different models and production years — confirm your guitar's post specification before ordering. Contact us with your model and year if you are uncertain.
Can the NVR2 also work with vintage ABR-1 posts?
Yes — the NVR2 is engineered to fit most AVR2 style posts and spacing as well as Nashville-spec posts. This dual compatibility means players with vintage-spec hardware or who have already fitted AVR2 posts can also use the NVR2 without the included Nashville posts. This is the NVR2's key engineering distinction from both the standard TP6 and the standard AVR2.
Is the NVR2 a direct replacement for the bridge in the LPM04 set?
The NVR2 bridges into Nashville-spec holes as the T3BP in the LPM04 does, but the NVR2 has the vintage ABR-1 saddle profile and aesthetics rather than the Nashville-style T3BP's proportions. If you have the LPM04 set and want to replace the T3BP bridge with a vintage-style bridge while keeping the T1Z tailpiece, the NVR2 is the correct bridge upgrade. The T1Z tailpiece from the LPM04 set can remain in place.
Does the NVR2 include a tailpiece?
No — the NVR2 is a bridge only. For a matching stop tailpiece, TonePros' T1Z or other compatible locking tailpieces are available separately. Contact us at Angkor Music for advice on pairing the NVR2 with a matching tailpiece for your guitar's specification.
